We had an amazing morning working with the wonderful team from Plant to Plate Aotearoa!
What a fantastic experience for our children, from growing the food, to cooking it and then sitting down to a huge feast!!!!!!
We showed impressive teamwork and virtues throughout the whole day. Children tried foods the have never had before and I am sure they are going to by sharing these recipes with their families.
Thank you so much for such a super massive day!!!! The children are all a buzz with healthy food!!!!
Check out the participants! An awesome effort from everyone!! Thanks for all the encouragement and support from parents and friends of the school.
Week 9
We have been looking at using out ipad minis to do photography.
We have been talking about how when we are reading, we can use pictures to give us clues to help increase our comprehension. Our aim for our first photography session was to snap shots as if they were clues to our school.
These are our class picks so far......
week 8 term one
Run Jump Throw!!!!
We have been working with Cameron form Sports Manawatu over the past couple of weeks. We have been very lucky to utilise his expertise and have learnt a lot in athletic skills. We have worked on high jump, long jump, discus, shotput, hurdles, sprints and the hammer throw. As your children what this means....."clean palm, dirty neck and chicken wings". Here is a slide show to show all the action on the field.
Top School on Waitangi Day
It was a warm Waitangi Day afternoon and the Top School excitement was building. Looking rather swish in our sports uniform, the Oroua Downs team gathered together and started to plan our attack. We listened to those that had had past experiences and started to strategise on how to be successful at each challenge. First up was the barrel roll. Most teams decided to sit on the plank as their team mates dragged the plank across the barrels, but not our team! We are from the beach and we surf the plank. Excellent communication lead the way to success. Being small proved to be an advantage in the sledge challenge. We had one of the highest scores of the day! Luke and Tyler had a blast being pulled along the ground at great speed, everyone had a turn and we were all quite puffed by the end of this one! Walking on upside down buckets proved to be challenging. With kids laughing as they fell over, ooh and ahhs could be heard from parents, with a faint cry ‘ankles, ankles”, but we survived with no injuries. It was fantastic to see the support and encouragement for each other that our team showed. Driving a trailer with a couple of bits of rope and a crew pushing madly behind you was the most hilarious thing the crowd had seen in a long time. Navigating a figure eight and straddling a plank of wood on the ground was tricky but driving over huge tyres proved to be a piece of cake. There were a few moments when the audience didn’t know if they should watch or run!!!! Excellent teamwork prevailed in the pipe challenge. Working to move as many tennis balls along pieces of pipe to a bucket 20m away, was a very speedy challenge. Quick feet and hands and thinking were they keys to success here. Finally, it was the slip and slide, the one challenge that everyone looks forward to. We had lots of fun but not so much water managed to make its way to the bucket at the opposite end of the course. Lots of smiles, dodging the foam, slipping over and giggling throughout saw everyone emerge drenched and wiping foam from their eyes. Overall, it was a privilege to manage an amazing group of students. They were a credit to themselves and our school. Their support and encouragement of each other, positive attitudes and energy was an impressive sight. Congratulations to you all and thanks heaps to the parents that gave up their time to transport our team. Looking forward to the fun next year.
